Tires and sizes on tandem pro

Okay, looking to change tires to something different. My riding is a lot of city roads, campground/bike trails-paved/asphalt. My thought are that a wider tire would carry weight better with a better ride.
Looking at Vee speedsters right now, curious to loading specs, etc.
Has anyone out there experimented on there tandem pro to see what max sizes will fit?
I have velocity aeroheat rims.
Also, what would be max tire for this application on the SS style wheels? Thanks in advance, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone!

  • It is gonna be nice for a few more days, so I am going to get the trike out again and be the guinea pig. I am thinking about vee tires.
  • Hi There,

I know this will not answer your question, but I think I need to tell you what I was told when ordering my Tandem Pro.

I asked Terratrike if I could get Big Apple 20-2.0 tires on it, and I was told that I could go no bigger than the stock 20-1.5 (due to clearance). I have looked, and it APPEARS that the 2.0 tires will clear. However; another factor would be the load capacity of the Big Apple 2.0 tires.

    Okay that’s my 2 cents.
    Enjoy.

just from pictures, 2.0 tires should be no problem. get 2 big apples for the front if cautious, see if one will fit the rear - if so, order third.

load capacity? schwalbe site will list but realistically, if the cst tires work on the rover tandem any 40 psi tire will probably do fine on the pro.

per the usual new guy advice, went from cst to marathons and a harsh ride on the rover. ptunga, went to big apple tires at max pressure with same lousy marathon ride.

dropped the big apple pressure to the same 40 psi as the cst tires, about same quality of ride. i dont have a calibrated butt so ymmv

Just looked here https://www.schwalbetires.com/tech_info/inflation_pressure and it does not say for how many tires/wheels. I have sent them a couple of questions and they have not answered. The pictures may be a help in determining the correct pressure.
